Lay My Body Down

Take me down to the river where the waters run together
Lay my body down
Underneath the shady tree where the morning sun will shine on me
Lay my body down

In the springtime sit with me, we’ll watch the flowers and the bees
Sing and run around
When the fall begins to cool, winter gathers at the pool
Sing and settle down

Out in the day clouds gather and they go
Only in the night the light may grow

Feel the breeze obey the wind and hear the leaves all say the end is near
Lay my body down
At the end with all the blessed I’ll come to take my well-earned rest
Lay my body down

I might know a thing or two about the one I love
I’ve spent all the time I need to above

Lay My Body Down

He is the Vine

We wrestle for a night without a struggle
Win the match and climb that ladder
Proudly walk away
Then we sit with God instead because we’ve suffered
Beaten down and found in mercy
Never to walk away

He is the vine
Apart from him we are nothing

We have this treasure here in earthen vessels
Bread of life pouring forth
From humble jars of clay
How does rainfall come to cleanse the wicked?
And that rain’s a flood of mercy
Washing the fear away

He is the vine
Apart from him we are nothing

Hey, I – I don’t want to know
Anything I can write down
Even the way to go
Hey, I – I only want to know
The name he calls me by
The day he calls me home

Dive into the stream of living water
Break the surface, swim to shore
You’ll wonder where you are
Wash the feet of those who have no mercy
Feel the pain within their souls
Washing through your heart

He is the Vine

He is the Vine

On the Wings of a Dove

On the wings of a great white bird
You fell in love from heaven to earth
On the wings of a dove
You led me in to the river and then
Into the desert without no end
On the wings of a dove

And I know the time will come
Once again you will receive your son
On the wings of a dove

In the city where the robbers lie
Turn the tables, watch the money fly
On the wings of a dove
Captivating, in a word
Softly spoken, always heard
On the wings of a dove

I know the time will come
Once again you will receive your son
On the wings of a dove

On the Wings of a Dove

God’s People

I would never cause nobody to sin
I would never start a fight
You’ll never find me lost in the middle of town in the middle of the night.

I’m out there under the stars, in the tents and fields
In the dark of the valley where
God’s people really know how to kneel

Listen to the sound of water falling down
On the feet of the one on the edge of the road
Many pass right by and never even know

I would never run away from here
I will always come around
Give me a place at the table and I’ll sit right down

I’m at home with the wholesome folk
The kind who take me in
Break your bread with the ones who’d never leave you in the wind

Listen to the sound of water falling down
From the Sun, from the one with his head in the clouds
The unsung voice is calling out so loud

There’s a home for the hopeless here
A place to lay it down
Why go anywhere else when I can stand on holy ground?

I was thinking a lot about The Salvation Army when I wrote this song. They’re out there in the tents and fields. Break your bread with the ones who’d never leave you in the wind.
